Abstract

In the current world of technology, when billions of information is being transmitted from one corner of world to another corner, security is an important aspect for protection of those information from any unauthorized users. The three security issues important to provide restriction to unauthorized access are: identification, authentication and authorization. Identification is a process to prove user’s identity like username. Authentication is a process to verify user’s identity. Authorization is a process to provide access to various resources after identification and authentication. In this paper I have reviewed various existing authentication methods and also compared them based on various factors like security criticality, computational cost, advantages, disadvantage and applications of
each.
