Abstract

The most extensively used construction material in the world is concrete. Cement is the major ingredient used as binding material in the concrete. Disposal of waste materials such as Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag(GGBS), fly ash, etc. are serious environmental issue. Carbon dioxide emission during cement manufacture also major environmental issue. Hence it is important to reduce cement consumption by the use of waste by products as supplementary materials. The addition of Supplementary Cementitious Material (SCM) in concrete has dramatically increased along with the development of concrete industry. Use of these by products as SCM facilitates sustainable development and also saving cost and energy. There is a scope of improvement of concrete performance by using quaternary blend. In this project, supplementary cementitious materials like Metakaolin(MK), Alccofine(AF), Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag(GGBS) and Granite powder(GP) are added along with M- sand to obtain the concrete grade of M60. The cement is replaced by 35 % of GGBS and Metakaolin, Alccofine and Granite powder are added in various combinations upto a maximum of 15%. Polycarboxylate ether based superplasticizer is added to the concrete with 0.75% of weight of cement. The various mix proportion for concrete with constant water- binder ratio is studied for fresh and hardened concrete properties. The concrete cubes, cylinders and prisms are cast and tested. The compressive strength of concrete is tested at 7, 14 45and 28 days, split tensile strength and flextural strength of concrete is tested at 28 days of age of concrete. The results of various combinations of SCM are compared to find the concrete exhibiting high performance concrete behavior.
