Abstract
Climate change concerns and rising global fuel prices, have increased the focus on renewable energy resources for energy requirements. Thus, Wind Energy Conversion Systems (WECS) are gaining popularity as they allow for large scale power generation. Over the years, advantages such as controllability, better-quality of output power, increased energy efficiency and low cost of power electronics have made Doubly fed Induction Generators (DFIG’s) the first choice systems for WECS. This paper presents a critical review of various control schemes used in DFIG’s connected to AC grids. Also, some latest schemes of DFIG’s schemes in DC grid are also presented.
