Applying SMED to Reduce Changeover Time and Improve System Performance

To stand up in the present Globalization world, Manufacturers need to find ways to reduce Production time and cost in order to improve operating performance and Product quality. It is normally possible to greatly reduce the setup times. Phenomenal outcomes are conceivable through better collaboration, Planning and basic adjustments. The main objective of this paper is to reduce machine conversion time between different batches by using Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED). This Study is carried out in one of the SIM card manufacturing industry. The SMED system proved a track record in many types of industries. The result shows that this study has achieved 52% of setup change time reduction, 612 seconds was reduced which increases the productivity. Increase in system productivity was calculated by measuring Overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) which increases by 4%.
