Abstract

The technique of earth supporting using soil retention, ie. Soil nailing technique is distinctive efficacious stabilizing innovation which provides not only effective measure to hold the earth behind the supporting nail wall but also a cost effective retention measure. This research provides information of results obtained in the form of safety factor for footing resting close to soil nail stabilised vertical cut using finite element technique by varying the various parameters. For this purpose PLAXIS- 2D of version-8 is used for soil modelling. 72 soil nailed models are simulated to investigate the effect of excavation depth, nail element length, edge distance of footing from vertical cut, vertical spacing of the nail element. It has been observed that the factor of safety is higher at increasing value of L/H for particular Sv/H, X/B, having constant Sh and inclination angle of nailing element.
