Abstract

Reverse engineering is a field which is expanding at a rapid rate because of new technologies in advanced manufacturing processes such as rapid prototyping, use of laser scanning and Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM. Reverse Engineering can be used not only to recreate the same part that is studied but also to create a new part whilst keeping the part under study as the base for the new part. This paper presents a step by step guide on the use of reverse engineering in designing and manufacturing a die for plastic injection moulding of a keychain. A brief literature survey is included in this paper, which focuses on the research conducted in reverse engineering and the steps involved in it for manufacturing a die.
