Abstract

Qualitative analysis depends on real time human perceptions towards bicycle riding. Hence a survey should comprise of detailed questions relating human perceptions. The Model will be responsive to the factors that are statistically significant in particular. In the survey, participants were asked to fill the questionnaire on bicyclist’s perspective on various types of factors that affect level of service and from that responses bicycle level of service is evaluated. The statistically calibrated mathematical equation entitled the Bicycle Level of Service can be used for the evaluation of bicycling conditions. The weights are calculated by using inverse variance method according to which the weights or constants are equal to inverse of the variance of the surveyed parameters. From the survey and its analysis, it can be concluded that based on human perceptions the surveyed region was “Moderately compatible” for bicyclists and is lying in Bicycle Level of Service-C range. BLOS C signifies that there are various bicycle facilities are not available as per required standards. By introducing bicycle parking facilities lighting on bicycle lanes, and by introducing signals specific for bicyclists the comfort level of the bicyclists can be improved.
