Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to study the effect and use of glass in the compressive strength and the abrasion resistance of concrete. It has been a general practice to work with various mix design parameters simultaneously to optimize the concrete properties and hence it appears that this eco-friendly approach to use glass, is yet to be exclusively explored in terms of compression and abrasion. Glass powder obtained by crushing waste bottles was used in 0%, 2.5%, 5% , 7.5% and 10% of the weight of cement as a replacement of sand maintaining a water cement ratio of 0.57.Each sample contained 3 specimen and were tested by the compression testing machine and the tile testing machine after 28 days of curing .Peak points were obtained in both the test and surface finish tremendously improved with the increase in percentage of glass.
