Abstract

Damages caused by recent earthquakes have exposed the vulnerability of R.C buildings in India. Many of existing buildings will be found to lack compliance with the current codes of practice, especially in terms of seismic resilience. The risk of failure of structure can be ascertained only after proper structural evaluation. The present study aims to evaluate the seismic vulnerability of one of the existing commercial complex with Soft Storey situated in Amravati, Maharashtra. The non-linear static analysis is done in SAP2000 (v20) to obtain capacity curve of the building and also to track the formation of hinges in structural members. The study highlights the complete process of seismic evaluation of existing R.C building starting from Rapid Visual Screening of building to detailed vulnerability assessment.
