Abstract

High rise buildings have become important infrastructures in modern world. Demand for highrise structures increased vigorously as they provide a solution to huge population and limited land areas. High rise buildings fulfill the demands of increased population in terms of more dwellings. The shape of the column plays a significant role in resisting forces (axial or lateral) and moments whether in low-rise building or highrise building. For present study, models of high–rise building (G+15 and G+21 multi-storey building) were
analyzed with dynamic seismic analysis (Response Spectrum Analysis) in seismic zone IV in Staad.pro software. Results of present study concluded that the total cost of G+15 building is minimum for Type C building (having Square cross-section) and total cost of G+21 Building is minimum for Type F building (having Square cross-section). Therefore, it can be concluded that the square cross-section of column is safe and economical at the same time for G+15 and G+21 multi-storey building
