Abstract

The demand of industrial by-products for pavement construction is increasing. Waste foundry sand (WFS) and marble dust creates huge scale environmental pollutants. Hence, it is necessary to prevent the environmental pollution and to use less natural sources as well as its usage in raising demand for pavement construction. The present study theme is, developing PQC mixtures using marble dust and WFS as a partial replacement of fine aggregate. In this study the effect of marble dust & WFS on strength properties of PQC are mentioned and the effect on the slab thickness of pavement for the flexural strength of the concrete mixtures incorporating marble dust and waste foundry sand (WFS) has also been observed.
This study indicates that the marble dust and WFS can be effectively replace Fine aggregate up to 20% in PQC mixtures. The highest flexural strength is achieved for the mix containing 10% marble dust and 20% WFS. The flexural strength increase is massive for mixes containing marble dust and WFS, with a combination up to certain limits of 30 to 40% in improvement of PQC. This observe not only satisfies the IRC code provisions but also saves the natural materials such as Fine aggregate.
