Abstract

Concrete plays an important role in the construction industry. High strength concrete (HSC) has been widely used in civil engineering in recent years. This is because most of the mechanical & durability properties of these types of concretes are better than those of normal conventional concrete. The present investigation is on the effect of the addition of steel fibers (ST) & polypropylene fibers (PP) to the high strength concrete for estimating the mechanical & durability properties. Different percentages of hooked end steel fibers with 15mm length & 1%, 1.5% and 2% of weight fractions were used. Polypropylene fibers with 12 mm length & 0.25, 0.35, 0.45 of volume fractions were used. The mix design is carried out for M70 grade concrete. The 10% silica fume (SF) is replaced by weight of cement. Tests like compressive strength, flexural strength & split tensile strength are carried out for mechanical properties and also tests like RCPT, percentage of voids and water absorption are carried out for the durability properties.
