Abstract

In this paper, An investigation is made on microstructure and mechanical behavior of Al2618 matrix and reinforced with 90 micron Boron Carbide (B4C) with four different varying weight percent i.e., (0, 3%, 6% & 9wt%). Al2618 matrix composites having 90 micron B4C was fabricated by using stir casting technique. The microstructure of composite was studied by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) & Energy Dispersive spectrography (EDS). And further mechanical behavior was studied. Mechanical properties such as hardness, tensile & compressive strength are evaluated by considering ASTM standards. Microstructural study reveals that there is an uniform distribution of reinforcement particles in a matrix and particulates were confirmed by SEM and EDS. The analysis disclosed hardness, ultimate tensile, yield & compressive strength of composite and increased due to addition of reinforcement.
