Abstract
Today it is task to transportation engineers is to plan and operate the transportation system in such a way that it meets various social objectives such as reducing vehicle operating cost, reducing travel time and enhancing safety. Over the years, there has been an extraordinary increase in road transportation and vehicular traffic in India due to an exponential growth in the economy and consumption habits, which has led to unsafe conditions on our highways. Casualties due to accidents on these roads are increasing year after year. The road safety depends on humans, vehicles, and road conditions and these factors influence the road safety separately or in combination. It is then essential to investigate the relationship between road accident rates and road design parameters to prevent road accidents and to provide a safe and comfortable driving environment to users. The present study aims to studies the accident occurred after four laning of selected stretch of NH-14 Beawar Pali Pindwara in the state of Rajasthan & suggest remedies as per IRC codes. After the analysis it was found that about 61 % accidents were caused due to human driving errors like overspending, fallen asleep, drunk & drive & 15 % accident were caused due to geometric deficiency. The accident can be controlled by use traffic calming measures at Junction locations, closed unauthorized median opening, enforcing laws, and creating awareness on road safety with involvement of police.
