So it is also necessary to enhance the seismic performance of asymmetric buildings by using seismic control techniques. In the present study a total of 9 models, asymmetrical in plan (L-shape) are taken for analysis to cover the broader spectrum of low, medium & high rise buildings for the seismic control of the structures using pushover analysis, two different techniques were considered such as lead rubber bearing isolator and masonry infill walls, the analysis has been carried out using SAP2000V19. The results of bare frame and other building models have been compared, the presence of lead rubber base isolator, top story drift get reduced as compared with masonry infill wall. The trend was found to be reversed for high rise buildings especially with the application of isolation systems due to the massive increase in the story displacements suggesting the ineffectiveness of the base isolators for high rise buildings successively the plastic hinge pattern formed after carrying out the pushover analysis was also studied which indicated that structural performance was considerably improved.

Abstract The effect of a skew angle on single-span RC bridges and PSC bridges are analyzed by utilizing the grillage analysis & the results or outcomes are presented in this paper. Studies are carried out on pre-stressed concrete (PSC) bridge decks to study the influence of skew angle and type of loading. The grillage analysis results of skewed bridges are compared with that of reference to straight bridges for IRC Class A loading and Class 70R Tracked & Wheeled Vehicles. Also, comparative analysis of response of skewed PSC Slab Bridge decks with that of equivalent straight bridge decks is made. The variation of maximum longitudinal bending moment (BM), maximum transverse moment, maximum torsional moment and maximum longitudinal stresses with skew angles are studied for bridge deck replicas. The results obtained for Live load longitudinal bending moment’s decreases with an increase in skew angle, whereas a maximum transverse moment increase with an increase in skew angle & also maximum torsional moment increases with an increase in skew angle. The benefit of pre-stressing is reflected in considerable decrease in the longitudinal bending moment, transverse moment and longitudinal stresses. The whole structures or models are analysed with the help of STAAD Pro V8i Version.

FAILURE CONTROL OF A SKYSCRAPER USING DIFFERENT METHODS OF RETROFITTING

Abstract A skyscraper is a tall, continuously habitable building having multiple floors. The term was originally used to describe one of at least 35-50 floors, mostly designed for office, commercial and residential uses. A skyscraper can also be called a high-rise, but the term skyscraper is often used for buildings higher than 50 m (164 ft). One common feature of skyscrapers is having a steel framework that supports curtain walls. These curtain walls either bear on the framework below or are suspended from the framework above, rather than loadbearing walls of conventional construction. The load a skyscraper experiences is largely from the force of the building material itself. In most building designs, the weight of the structure is much larger than the weight of the material that it will support beyond its own weight. In technical terms, the dead load, the load of the structure, is larger than the live load. The basic principles of design for vertical and lateral loads (wind & seismic) are the same for low, medium or high rise building. But as building gets high, both vertical & lateral loads become controlling factors. The vertical loads increase in direct proportion to the floor area and number of floors. In contrast to this, the effect of lateral loads on a building is not linear and increase rapidly with increase in height. Due to these lateral loads, deflection & moments on steel components will be very high. By retrofitting the structure, these types of failures can be controlled. In the present analysis, a skyscraper with 40 floors has been analyzed. It is tested by different methods of retrofitting like shear walls, bracings and friction dampers at different locations. The building is considered on medium soil and analyzed in all the four zones (II, III, IV,V). Storey Shear, Moment, Torsion, Drift and Lateral Load have been compared for all the cases. A commercial package, ETABS has been used for analyzing the skyscraper of 120m height and for different zones. The results are presented using tables & graphs and the most optimized solution is found out.

Now a day’s opening in the floors is common for many reasons like stair cases, lighting architectural etc., These openings in diaphragms cause stresses at discontinuous joints with building elements. Discontinuous diaphragms are designed without stress calculations and are thoughtabout to be adequate ignoring any gap effects. In this paper an attempt is made to try to know the difference between a building with diaphragm discontinuity and a building without diaphragm discontinuity. This present paper makes a humble effort to portrait the behavior of the five different multi storied buildings with diaphragm openings under response spectrum analysis using ETABS v 9.7.4 To achieve this objective, various models with varying diaphragm openings were analyzed and compared for seismic parameters like maximum dead load, base shear, maximum storey drifts, and response spectrum results

NUMERICAL INVESTIGATIONS ON SUPERSONIC FLUID FLOW BEHAVIORS PAST A CAVITY CONCERNING VELOCITY FIELD AND AEROACOUSTIC INFLUENCES WITH LES-APPROACH

Abstract A suitable numerical model is developed to predict supersonic flow pertaining to a 3D open cavity. The researches of supersonic flow over the 3D cavity having length-to-depth ratio of 2, include the supersonic free-stream Mach number of 2 and the flow Reynolds number of 105. The numerical simulation has been done with the Large Eddy Simulation (LES) approach. The Smagorinky model is introduced for the present investigation. The results found have been compared with the numerical simulation predictions available in the literature. The results have been expressed in the form of both coefficient of pressure (Cp) and overall sound pressure level (OASPL) along the side wall of the open cavity. The coefficient of pressure along the side wall of the said cavity appears to be very much comparable both qualitatively and quantitatively with the reported numerical results by the other investigator. Nevertheless, the overall sound pressure level along the side wall of the stated cavity is over-predicted by nearly 25-40 dB between the aft and front walls. Above and beyond, the velocity vector pertaining to the open cavity has also been investigated. Fairly large recirculation is witnessed inside the cavity and therefore these need to be supressed. Besides, the amalgamation of a spoiler is also planned for future to alter the flow structures inside the cavity which can bring about the reduction in recirculation in addition to the overall sound pressure level along the side wall of the open cavity.

Seismic evaluation is a subset of structural evaluation and is the calculation of the reaction of a structure to earthquakes. The prevailing goal of this work is to examine the numerous parameters like base shear, story displacement and story drift & stresses performing on flat slab system. Analysis of the large systems built the usage of flat slab in rectangular shape layout will be carried out with the help of Staad pro 2007 software via using is 456-2000Code. The main objective of the analysis is to study the behaviour of flat slab system in geometric vertical irregular multi-storied steel building against different forces acting on it during earthquake. The analysis is carried out using STAAD Pro2007 software. Steel structure frame with R.C.C flat slab without drop, steel column with I section & steel cantilever Beam with T section for vertical irregularity are modeled and analyzed for the dynamic loading. The analysis is made between Steel frame flat slab structure of G+10 story 150 %, 200%, 300% & 600% vertical irregular building with center, right & left edge positions. Response spectrum analysis results provide a more realistic behaviour of structure response and hence it can be seen that the displacement values in X directions are least in model with vertical irregularity in center when compared to all other models. Analysis of 150% 200%, 300% & 600% irregular building from center, left edge & right edge position with flat slab system in steel frame and results are carried out. It’s concluded that the flat slab vertical geometric irregular Structure at the center position with mass irregularity 200% is more sustainable for the effect of dynamic load on the performance of building as compare to other cases of irregularity in present study. Comparison in made between principal stresses, von mis stresses, tresca stresses & shear stresses in flat slab system, bending moment, node displacement, peak storey shear, Story drift & the result are brought out.

NUMERICAL MODELLING FOR STUDIES ON SUPERSONIC FLOW OVER A CAVITY WITH SPOILER INVOLVING VELOCITY FIELD AND OVERALL SOUND PRESSURE LEVEL BY LES-APPROACH

Abstract The present investigation pertains to the development of an appropriate numerical model for the supersonic flow over a 3D cavity with a length-to-depth ratio of 2. The Mach number of the supersonic free-stream is 2 in addition the Reynolds number of the flow is 105. The numerical simulations have been conducted by means of Large Eddy Simulation (LES) method. The Smagorinky model is introduced for this research. The numerical predictions have been expressed in the form of velocity vector as well as overall sound pressure level along the side wall of the open cavity. As witnessed, the velocity vector superbly describes the flow behaviour inside the cavity. Very large recirculation is also noticed inside the cavity without spoiler. Nevertheless, the reduction of the recirculation inside the cavity is realized by introducing a spoiler in the form of one-fourth of a cylinder at the leading edge of the open cavity. With the introduction of the spoiler, the overall sound pressure level along the side wall of the cavity is also decreased to certain level. Correspondingly, the sound pressure levels get decreased by almost 14 dB and 12 dB at both front and aft walls of the cavity, respectively. The alterations in the flow characteristics of the cavity along with the spoiler is also examined. In general, the comparisons between the simulation predictions of the cavity flows with and without the use of the spoiler is also made

Effect of Tool Speed and Feed on Tensile Properties of Friction stir welded AA6063-T4 alloy

Abstract In present work friction stir welds (FSW) of 3 mm thick AA 6063-T4 aluminium alloy were prepared at different speeds and feeds. The welding parameters were considered in order to achieve non-defective welds. The welds produced were classified as ‘‘hot welds” and ‘‘cold welds”. The cold welds, obtained with the minimum tool rotational speed and maximum traverse speed. Cold welds have improved mechanical properties relative to the hot welds that were in under match condition relative to the base material. Examination Process starts with the process of Examination Form Submission, then the process of Roll Number Assignment to eligible Students, then the actual process of examination and finally culminates in Evaluation, Result Processing and Result Declaration. The Examination Form Submission like all other processes of J&KSBOTE used to be manual and hence more prone to errors and extremely time consuming. To improve efficiency in terms of cost and time, an Online Examination Form Submission is developed which not only reduces the number of errors but also simplifies the entire system.

Abstract Masonry mortar is a homogenous mixture comprising of fine aggregate, binding material and water. In the current scenario, where the supply of sand is falling short of meeting the demand, it becomes imperative to finding an alternative. The locally available soils are intended to solve this problem. Mud mortar was commonly used for low rise masonry buildings in the past. When clay containing soil used for the mortar, problems like volume instability due to its high affinity towards water occurred. To remedies this problem, stabilization of the mortar is necessary. Cement, lime and fly ash are used as binders individually and in combination. The research is focused on an experimental study to understand the various characteristics of stabilized mud mortars. Workability and strength of 24 different combinations of stabilized mud mortars have been examined. Compressive strength tests were conducted to quantify the workability of the mortars. In the present work, the viability of replacing sand partially or fully with locally available yellow-white (grey) soil and brick dust is studied. The mortar with the alternative fine aggregates mixed with different combinations of binding materials i.e., cement, lime and fly ash was tested for 7, 21 and 28 days compressive strength. The mortar with 50% replacement of sand, 12% cement and 2 % fly ash has compressive strength in the range of 5.22 MPa which is acceptable as per the IS code 2250 specification the minimum strength requirement of mortar to be 3.0 MPa. Therefore, the use of stabilized mud mortar in construction would prove to be sustainable.

Abstract Self Compacting concrete is high – performance concrete which flow under its own weight to fill form work and self consolidates without any mechanical vibration. Such concrete can accelerate the placement, reduce the labor requirements needed for consolidation & finishing.Concrete plays major role in construction industry. It is made of coarse aggregate, fine aggregate mixed with cement and water. But River sand is high in cost and rare material. Due to increase in its usage depletion of sand deposits is occurring. Quarry Rock Dust (QRD), a by-product from crushing process during quarrying is substitute materials for the natural river sand. In general, concrete is strong in compression & weak in tension. In this research, to increase the Tensile property of Concrete, Glass Fibers are added with dosage of 1kg per m3 of concrete. In this investigation, an attempt is made to introduce the QRD in a percentage variation and to quantify the optimum usage of QRD in replacement to Natural Sand for Fiber Reinforced Self Compacting Concrete (FRSCC). Compressive Strength & Split Tensile Strength Tests were conducted to study the Mechanical Properties of FRSCC for the replacement of Natural Sand with QRD.

Abstract Construction of rural roads brings multifaceted benefits to the rural areas by way of increase in agricultural production and the size of market, better prices for agriculture produce, reduction in transport cost and the creation of off-farm employment opportunities. They also provide access to medical and educational facilities. Provision of rural roads is an effective element of a poverty alleviation strategy. Rural roads form a large share of the total road network in India. If these roads are not maintained, the benefits envisaged disappear. Keeping them in a serviceable condition is crucial to the agricultural growth and affording means of access to millions of rural people to social facilities such as health and education. Subsequent to a series of regional level workshops organized by the Ministry of Rural Development, and a series of overview studies supported by the World Bank on rural road maintenance in a few states, several areas for improvements in the delivery of maintenance have been identified. These include resource mobilization, maintenance planning, technology, implementation, monitoring and capacity building of local workers. Accordingly to understand the present status, a detailed situation analysis of rural road maintenance in Madhya Pradesh by field work has been carried out in 28 Roads, four roads in each seven blocks of Jabalpur districts based on interview and Questionnaires’ in the state of Madhya Pradesh. The finding of this study will be highly useful to preserve the benefits of huge rural road assets created recently in India

Abstract Improvement in characteristics of expansive soil by using different materials has been a challenging job for engineers. The present study, which aim to establish basic standards for the use of Lime and Rice husk ash in the stabilization of expansive soils. This study presents an experimental study in the stabilization of an expansive soil, improvement of its properties by the addition of Lime and Rice husk ash. The test result reveals that the optimum content of admixture for achieving maximum strength is approximately 4% lime mixed with 10% Rice husk ash by mass of the soil.Based on the results, it can be concluded that the expansive soil can be successfully stabilized by lime and Rice husk ash.

Experimental Study Of Modified Bitumen With Crumb Rubber (CRMB) And Low Density Polythene (LDPE)

Abstract The most important and widely used material in the construction of pavement is Bituminous concrete. It consists of asphalt or bitumen (used as a binder) and mineral aggregate which are mixed together & laid down in layers then compacted. This dissertation presents a research of modification of bitumen mix by use the different materials for preventing the damage of pavement and conducted to experimental study use of waste plastic, low density polyethylene (LDPE) and crumb rubber (CRMB) for the design of bituminous mixes at the different mix design characteristics and for conventional bitumen (60/70). The dry and wet process used to find the optimum % of bitumen content.

When the crumb rubber and polythene mixed with varying percentage (3, 6, 9 and 12) and (2, 4, 6 and 8) to the 60/70 grade bitumen their optimum values are 9 % (for CRMB) and 8% (for LDPE) respectively. After combination of these materials with their optimum value with bitumen the Marshall Stability value has observed. The optimum binder content reduce to 5.25% with the combination of optimum dose of CRMB i.e., 9% and optimum dose of LDPE i.e. 8% respectively compare to ordinary bituminous mix i.e., 5.5%.

Abstract The growth in the next leg of industrialisation and urbanization infrastructure is the biggest catalyst of India’s growth. A landmark in history has been created by manufacturing Alccofine which is a new generation ultrafine low calcium silicate product. It is a typical ground granulated blast slag furnace modulated by certain chemicals. It is specially processed material based on slag of high glass content with high reactivity obtained through the process of controlled granulation. It consumes calcium hydroxide from the hydration of cement to form additional C-S-H gel. The partial replacement of cement with Alccofine reduces water demand for same workability. It produces dense pore structure and ultimately higher strength gain. For growing infrastructure especially at low levels of high buildings, high strength concrete is required. This partial replacement results in better durability also. In the present study, the strength characteristics of concrete are observed by partially replacing the cement in concrete with 8%, 10% and 12% Alccofine and compared with normal concrete.
