Abstract Workout-related lower back injuries are common during strength training and are often caused by improper posture, highlighting the need for real-time posture monitoring to support injury prevention and performance optimization. This study proposes a mobile-based computer vision approach for real-time quantification of back angles during workouts. The proposed method integrates YOLOv8 instance segmentation to isolate the trunk region and applies Canny edge detection for contour extraction. It then employs a geometric formulation to identify neck and back reference points for angle computation. This hybrid design enables robust trunk localization and stable angle estimation across dynamic exercise movements. The model is evaluated on six gym-recorded videos captured with a low-cost mobile camera, achieving a mean relative error of 6.49%, comparable to video-based biomechanical assessment methods. These findings indicate that the proposed approach provides an efficient and practical solution for real-time back-posture monitoring using mobile devices, supporting safer and higher-quality daily training.

Abstract The article looks at the simulations of the possibility of theft risk occurrences with taking into account different types of cargo, its price and a carriage phase. The risk analysis was conducted by using original algorithms developed on the basis of artificial neural networks that take into account, among others, the probability of the cargo theft risk in a particular stage of the order for different types of cargo. The authors specify the forecasted loss values that refer to the type of stolen cargo, including penalties depending on the stage of the carriage. The research and the method described in this article enable the engineers to create a tool/program that facilitates the process of making decisions about additional cargo insurance or the use of monitoring systems for the location and parameters of the cargo. The method can also be used by the insurance companies to determine rates for cargo insurance.

Abstract The experiments of the surface grinding of Ti-6Al-4V grade 5 alloy (Ti-64) with a resin-bonded cubic Boron Nitride (cBN) grinding wheel are performed in this research to estimate the influence of cutting parameters named workpiece infeed speed, Depth of Cut (DOC), cooling condition on the grinding force, force ratio, and specific energy. A finite element simulation model of single-grain grinding of Ti-64 is also implemented in order to predict the values of grinding forces and temperature. The experimental results show that an increase of workpiece infeed speed creates higher intensified cutting forces than the DOC. The grinding experiments under wet conditions present slightly lower tangential forces, force ratio, and specific energy than those in dry grinding. The simulation outcomes exhibit that the relative deviation of simulated and experimental forces is in the range of 1-15%. The increase in feed rate considerably reduces grinding temperature, while enhancement of DOC elevates the heat generation in the cutting zone.
