Planning and Designing of Rural Water Supply System

Abstract Water is the basic need of human being as well as entire live species in the environment. As we know water occupied a major part in the body of human being. Therefore water plays important role in maintaining the health of human being that can be ensured by providing sufficient, regular and safe water to every house in rural as well as in urban area by means of providing water supply system. The government of Gujarat is also ensuring to provide regular, enough and safe water to the rural & urban community. Water supply system includes water sources, water storage at the location; water distribution network and Underground sump along with pumping mainline with a suitable pump.

Sartanpar village is selected as study area. In village Sartanpar which is located in Jasdan taluka of Rajkot district. Sartanpar village population is 889 souls as per census 2011 and present population is 965 as in the year 2016. The project period is considered 30 years, therefore, the population is forecasted using the arithmetic Increase method. Existing water supply system is cluster water distribution system. Propose an alternate solution for water distribution system is based on elevated storage reservoir with staging height 12mt. Water distribution network is designed by loop 4 software.

FRESH AND STRENGTH PROPERTIES OF GREEN REACTIVE POWDER CONCRETE

Abstract Reactive Powder Concrete (RPC) is a high strength, new generation concrete, formed from a special combination of constituent materials. The composition of reactive powder concrete includes cement (ordinary Portland cement), fine sand, silica fume, quartz powder, and high tensile steel fibers. Reactive powder concrete is grouped under ultra high performance concrete. Reactive Powder Concrete (RPC) is differs significantly from traditional concretes, in RPC no aggregate used and contains small steel Fibers that gives additional strength. A very dense matrix is achieved, and this compactness gives RPC ultra-high strength and durability properties. In the present study, a new type of green reactive powder concrete (GRPC) with ultra high compressive strength is prepared by totally replacing ultra fine quartz sand by the least costly and easily obtained natural river sand and Performance of green reactive powder concrete containing fly ash and GGBS as a replacement for cement at the percentage of 5% (M1), 10% (M2) and 15% (M3) by each is investigated. To compare the results of cement replaced mixture, specimen without cement replacement Standard GRPC mix (M) are also casted.

Performance of the various mixes is tested by the compressive strength, split tensile strength and flexure strength. A cube specimen of size 150mmX150mm X150mm, cylindrical specimen of size 100 mm dia X 200 high mm and beam specimen of size 150mm × 150 mm × 700mm were cast and demoulded after 24 hours then they allowed for normal water curing. The results show improvement in compressive strength in cement replaced mixes. The compressive strength varied in the range of 90 Mpa to 110 Mpa. The maximum compressive strength value that can be achieved in this study is 110 MPa for the GRPC with the Fly ash and GGBS as a replacement for cement at the percentage of 5% by each.

EVALUATION OF MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF CONCRETE BY USING BASALT FIBER WITH SILICA FUME

Abstract Worldwide, a great deal of research is currently being conducted concerning the use of fiber reinforced plastic wraps, laminates and sheets in the repair and strengthening of reinforced concrete members. in this paper to investigate the effect of replacing cement with silica fume and adding basalt fiber and study its mechanical properties and durability. to characterized mechanical properties and durability.110 specimens with different fiber proportion 0.7%,0.8%,0.9% ,1.2% with the replacing cement with 10% silica fume. the mechanical and durability properties of concrete, apart from different curing regimes only normal water curing has been chosen. Performance of the various mixes is tested by the compressive strength, split tensile strength and flexure strength. A cube specimen of size 150mmX150mm X150mm, cylindrical specimen of size 100 mm dia X 200 high mm and beam specimen of size 150mm × 150 mm × 700mm were cast and demoulded after 24 hours then they allowed for normal water curing also performed SEM analysis. The maximum compressive strength, split tensile strength and flexural strength value that can be achieved in this study with the silica fume content of 10% cement replacement and adding 0.9% basalt fiber.

Fracture Test & Fracture Parameters of Self Compacting Concrete using ANSYS

Abstract This paper presents a nonlinear finite element modeling and analysis of Self Compacting Concrete (SCC) beam subjected to three point bending load. In this study, the beam was modeled using ANSYS Workbench 17.2 nonlinear finite element software. The concrete is modeled using ‘SOLID65’- which is capable of simulating the cracking and crushing behaviour of brittle materials. Grade of concrete used was M40 for the beam. The beam had an overall dimension of 430×150×100 mm. The beam is studied for the ultimate load, load-deflection and load-strain behaviour for this case and compared with the available experimental values. The above study indicates that finite element modeling is properly able to simulate the behaviour and strength of SCC beam under flexure. The Comparison study showed that the FEA predicts a 10% variation in the deflection studies.

Effect of Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer Wrapping on Strength of Confined Concrete

Abstract External wrapping with Fiber Reinforced Polymers (FRP) has been increasing in recent years for strengthening and retrofitting of concrete and steel structures. Hence an attempt has been made to investigate the compressive and tensile behavior of concrete specimens (cylinders) strengthened with GFRP. The parameters varied in this investigation were number of wraps (single and double wrapping) and curing period (wrapping after 7 and 28 days of water curing). The experimental result shows that the specimens wrapped with glass fiber reinforced polymers have higher compressive strength and tensile strength than the control specimens. For durability studies cylinders were immersed in acid solution (5 % H₂SO₄) for the period of 28 days. It was noticed that the damage due to acid attack was severe in control specimen than the wrapped cylinders.

Numerical Analysis of Automobile Radiator

Abstract Now a day, the demand of automobile vehicles is on peak. So, it is a great challenge for automotive industries to contribute a powerful and efficient engine. The performance of an engine affects by various systems like fuel supply system, transmission system, lubrication system, cooling system etc. So, it becomes essential to account them while model an engine for improved the engines performance. Cooling system is one of the important systems. It also increases heat transfer and fuel economy which indications to increases the performance of an engine. Most internal combustion engines are fluid cooled using either a liquid or air coolant run through a heat exchanger (radiator) cooled by air. Different research papers have applied different method has been studied and finalized that the various coolants (nanofluids), tubes, fan and core, change efficiency of radiator at different mass flow rate. From the literature study, it has been seen that the efficiency of the radiator has been increased through a variety of methods, out of which radiator fan is the most used one to improving the efficiency of radiator by modification of radiator fan and radiator tube. This review focuses on the various research papers regarding CFD analysis to improve automobile radiator efficiency. Different research papers have applied different methodology and different tools for modeling, meshing and numerical solution. Various results suggest that CFD have been proved very effective in reducing concept-to-production time and cost. CFD results have high correlation level with the actual experimental results.

EXPRIMAENTAL STUDY OF MICROBIAL CONCRETE

Abstract Concrete is an absolutely essential component of construction materials used in infrastructure and most Buildings. Despite its versatility in construction, it is known to have several limitations. It is weak in tension, has limited ductility and little resistance to cracking. Based on the continuous research carried out around the globe, various modifications have been made from time to time to overcome the deficiencies of cement concrete. The corrosion of the concrete is caused by the interaction between biological and chemical processes. Microbial concrete has emerged as a novel technique in recent years. It can be used for various purposes, amongst which remediation of cracks in concrete is the primary one. Due to microbial activities of the bacteria, microbiologically induced calcite precipitation (MICP), a highly impermeable calcite layer is formed which contributes to increase the performance of concrete structure and also has excellent resistance to corrosion. Hence this technique being environmental friendly can be used as their substitute. It was also observed in the study that the metabolic activities in the microorganisms taking place inside the concrete results into increasing the overall performance of concrete including its compressive Strength and Durability.

Traffic Speed Flow Model For The Mix Traffic On Vadodara Arterial Road

Abstract The traffic in mixed flow can be classified as fast moving and slow moving vehicles or motorized and non motorized vehicles in India. The vehicle also deviate in size manoeuvrability, control, static and dynamic characteristics. The effect of curve on speed under the mix traffic condition is carried out in present study. Thus, the purpose of this study is to calculate the capacity of the urban arterial roads. The study and research consists of analyzing the arterial Vadodara roads which are divided in four lanes. A part for straight stretch, curve stretch also selected to study the reduction of the speed. By considering the straight road section, the speed flow model is developed.

Experimental study of replacement of pozzolanic material with corn cob ash (CCA)

Abstract Today researches all over the world are focusing on ways of utilizing either industrial or agricultural wastes as a source of raw materials for the construction industry. These wastes utilization would not only be economical, but may also help to create a sustainable and pollution free environment. Corn cob ash is one such fibrous waste-product of the sugar refining industry, along with ethanol vapor. Corn cob ash mainly contains aluminium oxide and silica oxide. In this paper, untreated corn cob ash has been partially replaced in the ratio of 0%, 2%, 4%, 6% 8% and 10% by volume of cement in concrete. Fresh concrete tests like compaction factor test and slump cone test were undertaken along with hardened concrete tests like compressive strength, split tensile strength. The result shows that bagasse ash can be a suitable replacement to fine aggregate.

A Paper on Experimental Investigation of Forced Convection Desiccant Integrated Phase Change Material Regenerated Dryer

Abstract There are hot and humid environment present in many parts of India. It is necessary to produce the dry air for such environment. Beside refrigeration, vapour compression system is also used to produce dry air but it leads to the environmental issues. For many domestic and industrial purposes, dry air is produced by using solid desiccants like silica gel, activated alumina and activated charcoal. These methods have low operating and maintenance cost and also these methods are environment friendly. For using these desiccants again, we have to regenerate them. In this review paper the methods have been studied to regenerate the desiccants for further use.

Numerical and Experimental investigation of Multi blade Vertical Axis Wind Turbine

Abstract Now a days small straight blade Darrius vertical axis wind turbine are receive more attention compared to horizontal wind turbines due to their advantage in urban use because they generate less noise, overall formation simple and less cost. First an efficient design methodology built on the design parameters like number of blade(four,five,six), Blade profile ,Tip to speed ratio influencing a straight bladed-VAWT (SBVAWT) aerodynamic performance and determine the optimal range of above parameters for prototype construction. Wind tunnel performance results are presented for cases of different wind velocity, tip-speed ratio and solidity. The main purpose numerical study described here is to investigate effect of camber in blade profile of NACA0022 SB-VAWT on its Self- Starting capability using CFD simulation. It is found that asymmetric blade profile NACA 2422 and NACA 4422 with camber instead of symmetric blade profile improves self-starting capability of SB-VAWT. Results indicated wind turbine with blades of asymmetric and thick blade-section was generally more suitable for applying to SB-VAWT. All results of above this study can be used the optimization design parameters of VAWT blades in further. Comparison of the overall multi blade vertical axis wind turbine performance parameters has been studied through numerical simulations and experimental measurements.

Human Action Recognition by using Dense Trajectories

Abstract Human activity recognition in video is the major problem in the computer vision. The human detection and tracking is significant challenges in the field of computer vision and pattern analysis which is used for video surveillances, gait pathologies recognition, robotics, human computer interaction and sport. When the video dense trajectories can be used to detect the fore ground motion by using the optical dense flow method. The dense representation is capturing the local information in the each video. The human motion can be tracking by using the spares Kanade Lucas Tomasi based tracker method.

The motion and structure descriptors are used to describe the human motions based on the motion boundary descriptors such as histogram of gradient and histogram of optical flow. These descriptors are detecting the human by computing derivates in the horizontal and vertical components of the optical flow. We evaluate the pseudo likelihood estimation of each trajectory that is shape factor and scale factor values in the each video dataset. The human activity recognition is classifying the human action by using K Nearest Neighbor classifier and binary Support Vector Machine classifier. The MATLAB tool is used to implement the human action recognition. Various types of human actions are tested and the performance been analysed. In this project, experimentally three datasets are used such as Human 3.6Million dataset, KTH dataset and Berkeley MHAD dataset.

Determination of EMI of PWM fed Three Phase Induction Motor

Abstract EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) testing is required for any electrical system especially for high frequency appliances for marketing. It is preferable to be tested it in earlier phase of design.In this paper, measurement of conducted EMI of PWM inverter fed 3phase induction motor has measured on FCC, part-15, class A standards. The standard line impedance stabilization network (LISN), and digital storage oscilloscope are used to measure high frequency leakage current. The LISN will prevent the EMI noise entering the system from the supply source by conductive methods, at the sometime prevents the EMI generated if any due to PWM, fast switching in the system, will not be allowed to enter the supply line. The results of both triggering method of IGBT compared and can be concluded that the SPWM method creates more EMI than SVPWM method.

Parametric robust control of power system using delta operator

Abstract Changes in real power affect mainly the system frequency, while reactive power is less sensitive to changes in frequency and is mainly dependent on changes in voltage magnitude. Thus, real and reactive powers are controlled separately. The load frequency control (LFC) loop controls the real power and frequency and the automatic voltage regulator (AVR) loop regulates the reactive power and voltage magnitude. Load frequency control has gained in importance with the growth of interconnected systems and has made the operation of interconnected systems possible. This paper deals with the control of active power using delta transformation technique to keep the system in the steady state. Simple models of the essential components used in the control systems in delta domain is studied. The objective of the control strategy is to generate and deliver power in an interconnected system as economically and reliably as possible while maintaining the voltage and frequency within permissible limit.

PARAMETRIC STUDY OF CLOSED GRID FLOOR SYSTEM

Abstract Generally for grid slab analysis, it is assumed that although slab is directly supported on beam-grid, bending of beam-grid has no effect on slab. An attempt has been made to consider the effect of same by considering actual behavior. Different parameters like slab depth, depth of grid-beam and spacing of grid-beam are consider for study. Charts are prepared for slab stresses and grid-beam stresses at top surface and bottom surface. The parametric study is done by ABAQUS 6.14 software.

WATER QUALITY ANALYSIS USING RS AND GIS- A CASE STUDY FROM HYD

Abstract This paper deals with development of decision making tool for mapping of water quality Parameters of Hussainsagar lake of Hyderabad District, Telangana. Mapping was done using satellite data combined with measurement of selected sample points. Water quality data was collected for both pre-monsoon and postmonsoon seasons. The water quality parameters included, TS, DS, SS, pH, COD, BOD, DO, Chloride and TH. Using radiance data of pre-monsoon images and in situ measurement data of water quality parameters correlation were developed and selected most appropriate band combinations. With the help of these multiple water quality parameters obtained through laboratory analysis of water quality and preparation of digital cartographic maps depicting the water quality over the entire study area for both the seasons respectively.

Analysis of variation in cropping pattern in the Region betwee Narmada & Kim River

Abstract In order to provide necessary watering according to available resources for agricultural requirement and for the optimizing the crop production the sustainable cropping pattern is playing significant roll. For optimizing the agricultural production from past data and comparing with available data irrigated land and decision-making evaluation for command area development, The high resolution satellite data can give spatial information about various crops grown and crop yield, will access existing adopted cropping pattern by farmers. This analysis includes identification of crop types, crop acreage, Using Index map and relevant satellite images for the region between Narmada and Kim River .The existing cropping pattern for the rabi season between two rivers area accessed over the period of time between the year of 1998 and 2014.The study reviles the significant changes in cropping pattern which includes reduction in Juvar and Sugarcane due to unlined canal irrigation system. The cash crop adopted by farmers and looking to water requirement of actual cropping pattern is excess which means the irrigation capacity need to be increased by various management strategies between the study area.

SEISMIC DESIGN OF OIL STORAGE TANKS

Abstract In the first part of this paper, provisions from various international codes on design seismic forces for oil storage tanks were reviewed. This paper reviews provisions related with the analysis and modeling aspects. These aspects include mechanical analogue of tank, time period of lateral and vertical mode of vibration, hydrodynamic pressure distribution, sloshing wave height, soil-structure interaction etc. The codes reviewed are: American – API 650 , March 2013, European – EN : 14015 , GSDMA – IITK , Guidelines for the seismic design. It is noted that all the codes use mechanical analogues to evaluate hydrodynamic forces, particularly due to lateral base excitation. The provisions on inclusion of effect of vertical excitation are not covered in all codes. Provisions of soil-structure interaction, buried tanks, flexibility of piping are either not addressed or are given in only qualitative terms. A brief description on limitations in Indian code is also presented.

APPLICATION OF GPS IN TRAVEL TIME RELIABILITY FOR ARTERIAL ROAD -A CASE STUDY MUMBAI-PUNE HIGHWAY (URBAN SECTION)

Abstract Travellers like short travel times. So, from the traveller’s perspective, it seems fair to use the mean travel time or mean speed in order to measure the traffic flow performance of a route. However, short travel times might not be the only aspect which is of importance to travellers. It is hypothesized that predictable travel times are also of value to travellers. Hence, the size of variation in travel times, or in other words, Travel Time Reliability (TTR) plays a role in the way that travellers judge the performance of a route, and it is likely that it influences the behaviour of travellers as well. When the mean travel time is used as an indicator for the performance of a route, no insight is gained into the size of the variation in travel times within the observed period.

The goal of this research is to study Travel Time Reliability in (Mumbai Pune Highway,urban section). Reasons for this research are: (a) it is hypothesized that TTR influences road user behaviour, and insight into this relation provides valuable information for road managers and traffic engineers in order to improve the performance of traffic networks, (b) the field of TTR is fairly unexplored territory, and (c) it is possible to perform extensive data analyses, due to the recent increase in travel time data collection possibilities. A literature survey is conducted to serve as a first step in reaching this goal. The literature study shows that there has not been much investigation into TTR in urban areas / arterial road. The reasons for this are that (a) generally, motorways are most equipped with instruments for data collection, and (b) urban environments are more difficult to investigate, because these have more complex traffic interactions than motorways. Another important conclusion from the literature research is that there are three levels of time frames on which TTR can be approached: inter-day, inter-period, and inter-vehicle. For this research, inter-day variations are observed, because deviations from a daily pattern will influence TTR from a road user perspective. Inter-period variations will be known by road users and inter-vehicle variations only have a small influence on travel times. Literature also shows that TTR is defined as: “The ability of the transport system to provide the expected level of service quality, upon which users have organized their activities.” This implies that a high TTR does not necessarily mean that travel times on a route are constant during a day, but that travel times that are experienced by road users are approximately equal to their expected travel times.

I have done TTR study on Mumbai Pune Highway, urban section. It is very important section of highway, which connects western India to Mumbai. Frequent congestion due to variation in traffic density, weather and timing is common. Study will help to mitigate congestion problem in the section.

COMPARISION AND STUDY OF NUMERICAL METHODS FOR DYNAMIC RESPONSE EVALUATION OF SDOF (LINEAR)

Abstract This paper presents study and comparison of numerical methods which are used for evaluation of dynamic response. A Single Degree of Freedom (SDF)-linear problem is solved by means of Newmark’s Average acceleration method, Linear acceleration method, Central Difference method, Wilson-theta method and RungeKutta method (Fourth Order) with the help of MATLAB. The advantages, disadvantages, relative precision and applicability of these numerical methods are discussed throughout the analysis.
