Abstract
For economical design, scour around the bridge piers is required to be controlled. The execution of any scour assurance/controlling device around bridge piers relies upon how the device counters the scouring procedure. Efforts have been made to reduce the depth of scour by placing the triangular prism on pier at upstream and downstream sides for a bed sample collected from river Ghagghar. The present study deals with minimizing the local scour under a pier. Different possible arrangements have been observed and analyzed to find out the best arrangement.Experiments showed that the arrangements are very effective in reducing scour depth by placing a triangular prism of 2.5 times the diameter of circular pier in the upstream direction near the water surface; it is possible to reduce the clear-water scour by as much as 60%.The study shows that the triangular prism is capable of eliminating scouring to a reasonable extent.
